FRAMING OF THE CONSTITUTION
1- The constitution of India was framed by the constituent assembly which was constituted in 1946 under the cabinet mission plan.

COMPOSITION OF THE CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
1- There were proposed 292 members of the constituent assembly to be indirectly elected by the members of the existing provincial assemblies by the method of proportional representation with Single Transferable Vote. In addition, there were 93 members nominated by the rulers of the princely states. Seats in each province were distributed among three main communities
General, Muslim, Sikh proportional to their population.
2- Following the partition of the country in 1947 the membership of the Assembly was reduced to 299 members. Of these 229 members are elected by the provincial assemblies and the rest were nominated by the rulers of the princely states. Majority members belonged to the Congress Party.
. The Assembly worked with the help of a large number of committees and sub committees.   The committee is were of two types.
a). Relating to matters concerning with procedure,
b). Concerning important issues.

DRAFTING COMMITTEE
. Drafting committee which bore the responsibility of drafting the constitutional document during the recess of the constituent assembly from July 1947 to September 1948, was formed on August 29, 1947 its members were:

. Alladi Krishnaswami Ayyar.
. K.M.Munshi.
. Syyed Mohd.Saadulla.
. N.Madhav Rao.

ENACTMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION
1- The objective revolution was moved by Jawaharlal Nehru in the constituent assembly on December 17, 1946 which was almost unanimously adopted on January 22 1947.
2- Constitution came out for its first reading on February 4, 1948 the Assembly had a General discussion on it for 5 days.
. Next meeting of constituent assembly on November 15, 1948. During this stage as many as 7635 amendments were proposed and 2,473 were actually discussed in the Assembly.
3- III reading of the draught started on November 14 1949 it was finally passed and accepted on November 26 1949.
4- Constituent assembly took 2 years 11 months and 18 days to complete the constitution.
5- The constitution, adopted on November 26,1949 content of Preamble,395 articles and 8 schedules.
